Dear Techies,

The most overlooked business opportunity right now isn't a new app or a new platform.

It's a gap.

Specifically, it's the gap between what AI can do for a small business and what most owners actually know. That gap is widening every week. And the people who learn to fill it — not by being AI engineers, but by being one step ahead and willing to help — are building real, sustainable income right now.

Here's what that looks like in practice.

Most businesses don't need an AI expert. They need someone who can help them take one step.

Think about the small business owners you know. The salon. The logistics company. The tutor. The market trader who's started selling online.

Most of them have heard of ChatGPT. Some have tried it once, got a strange answer, and never went back. Almost none of them have figured out how to make it work for their specific business.

That's not a technology problem. It's a translation problem. And translation is a skill anyone can learn.

The opportunity isn't in building AI tools — it's in helping people use the ones that already exist. For their content, their admin, their customer communication, their online presence. The tools are free or nearly free. The knowledge of how to apply them is where the value lives.

One thing you can do this week to test this for yourself

Pick one small business near you — a friend's, a family member's, a local shop you use regularly.

Ask them this question: "What's the most time-consuming thing you do every week that isn't the actual work of running your business?"

The answer will almost always point to something like writing content, answering messages, chasing invoices, updating their page, or writing product descriptions.

Then spend thirty minutes using a free AI tool — ChatGPT or Claude, both free to start — to produce a draft of whatever they described. Don't send it. Don't charge for it. Just see what you can produce.

What you'll find is that the output is good enough to be genuinely useful with a small amount of editing. That editing — the judgment, the voice, the understanding of what that business actually needs — is the skill. The AI is just the engine.

That thirty-minute experiment is the beginning of a service business.

Why this moment is different from previous technology shifts

Every major technology shift creates a window — a period where the tools exist but most people haven't figured out how to use them yet. That window is where early movers build disproportionate advantage.

The window for AI is open right now. That won't be true indefinitely.

What makes this shift different from those that came before is the barrier to entry. You don't need to learn to code. You don't need expensive tools or a formal qualification. You need curiosity, a smartphone, and the willingness to figure things out — then explain them clearly to someone else.

That's a genuinely different kind of opportunity, and it's available right now.

What's on this week

We've just launched a proper website — the course, the newsletter archive, and everything we're building going forward is now in one place. Go have a look: New Website.

On Sunday, April 26th, 2026, I'm running a live virtual workshopBuild a Simple Website for Your Business with AI in a Weekend. It's beginner-friendly, runs on Zoom, and by the end you'll have a real landing page built with AI and ready to share. Spots are limited. Details here: Workshop Link.

If you want to go deeper on any of this, this week's video covers five specific business ideas built on exactly the opportunity above — with tools, income ranges, and beginner tips for each one. Fifteen minutes: Watch Video Here.

Before you go

If you know someone who has been sitting on an idea and hasn't found a way to start — forward this to them. The experiment above costs nothing and takes thirty minutes. It might be exactly the nudge they need.

P.S. A practical note for anyone taking these ideas global: if your service work leads you toward international clients — which it very likely will — sort out your payment setup before you land your first one, not after. Payoneer and Wise are the most accessible options across most of the world. Get it running now so you're not scrambling when someone wants to pay you.
